Meet Teri

Hello My name is Teri! My other job is the Founder and Owner of Body Systems Skin Care Company manufacturing bath and body products. I have been a certified fitness instructor for over 16 yrs and love most athletic activities including hiking, golfing, running, fitness, and hockey!
My main gym where I taught classes, (yoga, kickboxing & Body Pump) closed up shop in 2009 and I was suffering from thyroid/hormone and metabolism problems. After a few months of being fairly inactive, my husband and I decided to try P90X together. I needed to get back on track and needed to try something that had a pre-determined program that worked.
At this same time I was reading more and more about carbs and effects of grains on inflammatory health issues. My thyroid and adrenal fatigue was at it's worst right now. I decided to start a very strict no-carb diet for 8 weeks to detox my system and start on a new food path. The first 4 days were horrible. My body was literally going through withdrawals but on that 5th day, I woke feeling calm and relaxed. I had no more fatigue and withdrawal symptoms and the remainder of the 8 weeks went by very quickly. I started with a very strict no-carbs (except vegetables) plan and then after 8 weeks, I introduced minimum carb grams in the form of mostly fruit. After another 8 weeks, my body was getting stronger and I was able to reach a maintenance plan of about 20 grams of carbs max every 5 hours. As of 2017 I'm still on this low carb plan. It's done wonders towards healing my adrenal fatigue, limiting my inflammation and making my body stronger. I now also follow a no grains, low carb and no food sensitive plan.
In 2010 I started exercises at the pool and joined in with water aerobics. As any fitness instructor will tell you...leading classes isn't something we can just stop. Within a few months, I was teaching Aqua Power workout classes at this pool and playing Hockey on a Men's League. I really feel that the water workouts help with adrenal and thyroid issues. I struggle with inflammation and past injuries from sports which the water seems to help.
My other main interest is Golf. I have played competitive golf most of my life. This includes playing and coaching at the Univ. Of Minnesota. I have been a private golf coach and am here to answer any questions with golf too!
As a coach, I am here to help you reach your fitness goals, assist with finding the right program, supplements, nutrition information, and to provide support/motivation. If you have not heard from me please send an email to teri@body-systems.net
The year 2014 was busy! I had our first baby in May (and at the age of 42!) and like many of you can confirm...this takes up much of your day and exercise is difficult to fit in. I continued to teach my Aqua Power class till the middle of my 40th week of pregnancy. I actually went into labor a few hours before I was going in to teach class. The water movements felt so good during those months. I continued my same diet during pregnancy and was shocked that my doctors/nurses were lacking so much on nutrition and general exercise.
My greatest challenge now is finding time for workouts. Due to my adrenal issues, it's better for me to have longer but less intense workouts. So i found that treadmill walking each day is the best. I do my best to run my Bath/Body company during the day while caring for our baby and now evenings are for my workout and product production time. Scheduling in workouts is a major job now but it makes me feel better and keeps my thyroid/adrenal issues at bay.
I focus on coaching and supporting others. Female entrepreneurs are my focus...and anyone that needs some extra boost in their wellness. If I can help or encourage anyone, then I'm successful. I'm going to start helping in groups and one-on-ones this year and bringing a focus on overall wellness that includes stress reduction, body products and fitness/nutrition. All of those need to be in BALANCE and that's the most difficult challenge we have in this modern society, isn't it? Are you with me? Are you ready to focus on yourself, inside and out? - Teri Patterson 2017
